Meet the Trainers Behind the MomentumAs Fitness & Pilates continues to grow, we’re excited to officially introduce the trainers helping drive that momentum forward. Each brings a unique story, skill set, and coaching style — but they share one common focus: helping you move better, build strength safely, and gain confidence that carries into everyday life. Alexander Weston, CPTAlexander is an NFPT-certified personal trainer whose fitness journey began over 20 years ago in Norwalk, CT. After deciding he no longer wanted to feel out of breath walking up the stairs, he committed to improving his health — and the transformation reshaped his confidence and his life. Today, Alex helps clients build that same confidence through structured strength training, consistency, and clear goal setting. His sessions focus on steady, measurable progress that empowers clients to take on new challenges both inside and outside the gym. Valbona “Val” HalimVal brings a focused, encouraging approach to both Pilates and strength training. She emphasizes safe progression, stability, and core control while helping clients build strength they can feel in everyday movement. Her sessions are intentional and structured — designed to challenge you without overwhelming you. Val’s coaching style blends accountability with support, creating an environment where clients feel capable, motivated, and confident in their progress. Mackenzie McIntoshMackenzie approaches training with a strong emphasis on sustainability and real-life application. As a certified personal trainer and nutrition-focused coach, she helps clients connect the dots between strength, recovery, and smart fueling. Her philosophy centers around realistic planning, early wins, and building habits that last. Mackenzie works closely with clients to ensure their progress fits into their lifestyle — because long-term wellness is built on consistency, not extremes. Why Our Pilates Studio Is DifferentAs we continue to grow, many clients ask what makes our Pilates program different. The answer is simple: we are not a corporate franchise. We are independently owned, and that independence allows us to teach Pilates the way it was intended to be taught — with attention to detail, thoughtful progression, and real instruction. In larger franchise environments, classes often follow standardized templates designed to scale across many locations. While that structure supports consistency, it can limit how much instructors can adapt to the individuals in the room. At Fitness & Pilates, we are not bound to preset scripts or national programming models. Our instructors have the freedom to slow a class down to refine technique, adjust exercises in real time, and focus on proper alignment and control. Our class sizes are structured so instructors can truly see you, cue you, and correct you. That level of attention builds stronger foundations, safer movement patterns, and more consistent progress over time. Because we are independent, we can also evolve our programming based on our community. If our members are ready for advancement, we create it. If deeper foundational work is needed, we prioritize it. Pilates here is not just a workout on a machine — it is guided movement with intention, structure, and long-term development in mind. Pilates Education FeatureWhy Hands-On Instruction Matters in PilatesPilates was never designed to be a “follow along and hope for the best” workout. It was created as a system of controlled, precise movement that relies heavily on alignment, feedback, and correction. One of the most powerful tools in that system is hands-on instruction. When learning Pilates, small adjustments make a significant difference. A slight shift in pelvic alignment, rib positioning, shoulder stability, or foot pressure can completely change which muscles are activating and how safely a movement is performed. Without correction, the body naturally falls back into compensation patterns — allowing stronger muscles to take over while weaker or underactive areas disengage. Over time, that limits progress and can increase strain on joints and connective tissue. Hands-on cueing allows an instructor to: • Refine alignment in real time It transforms a class from simply completing movements into learning how to move with precision and control. For newer clients especially, tactile feedback accelerates understanding. Instead of guessing what neutral spine, proper shoulder positioning, or deep core engagement feels like, they experience it directly. That awareness builds confidence, improves retention of technique, and creates safer, more effective progression. At Fitness & Pilates, we believe hands-on instruction is not optional — it is foundational to teaching Pilates correctly. All of our instructors are trained to use hands-on cueing thoughtfully and professionally as part of their teaching method. We prioritize alignment, safety, and movement quality in every class. Our approach ensures that clients are not simply moving through exercises, but developing a deeper understanding of their bodies and building strength that lasts. Pilates works best when it is coached, corrected, and refined. Winter Strength Tip: How to Avoid Snow Shoveling Injuries Every winter, we see the same pattern: the first major snowfall hits, and within days people are dealing with strained backs, irritated shoulders, or even more serious injuries. Snow shoveling is deceptively demanding. It combines loaded spinal flexion, rotation, repetition, and fatigue — often performed in cold temperatures when muscles and joints are less prepared to handle stress. Add in wet, heavy snow and rushed movement, and the risk increases quickly. Most shoveling injuries occur because of three common mistakes:
The reality is this: snow shoveling exposes weaknesses in core stability, hip strength, and movement control. If those foundations aren’t strong, the body compensates — and that’s when injury happens. That’s why this time of year is the perfect reminder to build a stronger base. $99 Personal Training Intro Program If you want to reduce injury risk and move with more confidence — not just during snowstorms but year-round — we created a program specifically designed to help you start safely. Our $99 Introductory Personal Training Program includes: • A 45-Minute Movement Assessment During your assessment, we evaluate how your body moves, identify imbalances or stability weaknesses, and build a plan tailored to you. The training sessions then focus on strengthening your core, improving hip and shoulder stability, and refining movement mechanics so everyday tasks — including shoveling — feel stronger and safer. This is not about pushing you harder. It’s about teaching your body to move better. If winter has exposed stiffness, weakness, or discomfort, now is the time to address it — before it becomes a larger issue. |
